10 Week Class! This class is designed to help you build confidence in a live performance setting with a focus on bandstand essentials for vocalists, including: creating (and understanding the elements of) a clear, readable chart (aka lead sheet); communicating with instrumentalists effectively and collaboratively; creating arrangements; experimenting with style/feel; and approaches to improvisation/vocal soloing. Bring your favorite charts (standards or originals), or select tunes from instructor’s list of 200+ professional lead sheets (transposable to any key). Students will be accompanied by a professional pianist weeks 1-7, full rhythm section (add bass/drums) weeks 8-10, culminating in a live performance with full trio at the end of the quarter.
